WIP Shot

Not much is actually done in this pic, but I made some good progress today.

Back in the Saddle

Painted base for the Spellsinger.

I went for a very cold, frosty look. I am using a color scheme on the model that is heavily influenced by, if not blatantly stolen from, Glenn Lamprect's Wood Elf Army Showcase in WD 316.

Golden Demon Redux

I have been relaxing all week, enjoying my 3 1st Cuts, [WFB Single, Open, and 40k Single], and my Bronze Demon[40k Single].

There has been a bit of controversy regarding Victor Hardy's Word Bearers Demon Prince that took the Silver Demon in 40K Large. There are Photos of the model ALL OVER the interweb, so I won't repeat them here. But I will, for what it's worth, give my opinions.

The model is exceptionally well painted, there is no doubt about that. I have often admired Victor's skill, if not his style. I like the style he used here, much better than his 'striped' style in the past. I find the pose a bit ackward, almost like a cartoonish 'Eek! A Mouse!' pose, and I don't think it fits the model very well.I have no problem with the Pseudo-Christ iconagraphy, but I think the freehand is over the top. Someone on the CMON forums described it as 'freehand for freehand's sake'. While I have a long way to go to reach Victor's skill or number of trophies, I think he went to far with the freehand, and should have been more selective with the placement. I like the banner and the base. Overall, as I liked the model Bushido painted better, I was pleased with the judging of that catagory.I was saddened by his reaction, I don't think he took it well at all. I have yet to spend that much time on a miniature, but if I do, and I am gunning for the Sword and lose, I hope that I will be able to be gracious in defeat.

Overall, I had a very good time, hanging out the Elijah7, SBJ, -Q-, Bushido, Herald of Nurgle, and others. I had a good talk with Matt Bishop and Dave Taylor at the WD/Black Gobbo table. As for what is on my desk, I have a Spellsinger for Works of Heart that is FAR overdue. I had began to paint it once before, but not at all pleased with the color scheme. I stripped the model last night, and set up a new base for it this morning, I'll be be painting it this weekend.

G0d@mn New Jersey...

I hate this state.

I have never been anywhere so jacked, weatherwise, in my life. It's Jan. 23, last Monday I was using a sledge hammer to break up the 2.5 inches of ice on my sidewalk, late in the week it was 60 degrees, and right now it's 40 and pissing down rain so hard going outside is like standing in the shower. The entire winter has been like this...

I don't know what it is, perhaps the pollution, smokestacks, and landfills have effected the local climate, or perhaps Jersey just SUCKS!

On a lighter note, I have begun working on two of my Golden Demon '06 models, and have slapped a bit more paint on the scouts, so happily, the progress continues.

I took last night off...

Just kinda chilled out last night, ordered some pizza, watched a movie, hung out with the family.

Back to work tonight.

12 Years...

As of 10 AM EST today, I will have been in the United States Air Force for 12 years.

To be honest, that's a bit of a kick in the head. In that time I have been stationed in 6 different places in 5 different states and the UK, flown around the world twice, spent 200 days in the deserts of the Middle East, gotten drunk in most of Europe, gotten married twice, worked on perhaps 500 different aircraft, multiple injuries, including a broken hand, a blown-out knee, a cracked cheekbone, and countless lacerations, been exposed extremes in temperature ranging from 135 degress to -30 degrees, gotten 10 tattoos and 2 piercings, purchased 7 vehicles and became a father twice, and owned one dog.

Painting White over Black

While the warmer tones of White can give me trouble, the cooler tones Never do. Perhaps it's mental, perhaps I thin down Space Wolves Grey better than any other color, I don't know. What I DO know, is that things are coming along. All 5 have Shadow Grey undercoated on the preliminary white areas[eventually the cloaks and hoods will be white as well] and two have the Space Wolves Grey mid-tone applied.

It looks to be a long day at the office today, so I cannot say how much well get done tonight, but I am happy with the fact that things are actually moving forward once again.

It's been Ages...

...Since my last update.

I lost my painting mojo for quite a while, almost 4 months. I'm hoping that the painting that I am doing today will continue- I have Golden Demon entries that need to be painted for Baltimore 06. I have Charity Models for Works of Heart that need to be painted. I have my Bolter and Chainsword persona that needs to be finished. I also have Ultramarines that need to be painted, and the beginnings of a new army as well...

After about 2 hours of work this morning, I dropped two models into the oven cleaner that is my preffered paint stripper, but in retrospect, I'm glad I did, I wasn't pleased with either one's progress or where they were headed. After some lunch and a nap, I came back into the studio and pulled the Wood Elf Scouts that I was sent for Works of Heart off the shelf, and set to work.

After a couple of hours I was pleased with the faces for all five scouts. I'll be moving on to some of the clothing tonight, and then some more tomorrow after work.

I finished her up yesterday morning, and will be mailing her out on Friday.
Next up is the Male Spellsinger on Foot. He is quite a unique Model, should be very interesting to paint.
